How to get the most out of your website
One of the biggest buzzwords around today is the word “website."
- Radio and TV ads are referring you to websites for more info,
- website addresses appear on most business cards, brochures and pamphlets –
- references to websites are even appearing on T-shirts!
In business circles, it’s very likely that someone has told you that “You’ve simply got to have a website, dahling! Your business just won’t survive without one.”
This friendly business “guru” is right and wrong. She’s right when she suggests that your business will lose out more and more if it doesn’t start using a website profitably. She’s wrong when she says you’ve got to have “a website.” The idea that just having a website, any website, will be good for business is nonsense. A bad website can actually end up making you look unprofessional and damage your image and your business. A good website, however, one that is planned and that suits your business - one that makes it quicker and easier for your clients to do business with you - can make running your business and increasing your profits by attracting more clients, much easier, more effective and even fun. Before signing that cheque so that the suave “website expert” sitting in your office can go “build you a website”, take a little time to find out how to get the most out of your website - both in terms of functionality and the best value for your money. During our nine years of involvement in the IT and website industries we have found that giving our clients some background information regarding websites - some basic knowledge about what a website entails and how it works - helps them make a more informed and good-value-for-money decision.
